Boating entered our family’s blood back when I was a young man growing up in Grand Cayman during the 1980s. My family had a 19′ bowrider that my high school friends and I were out in almost every day of the week all year long. After eventually moving back home to Michigan for my college years, there was a hiatus in my boating. But once I was able to convince my wife, Cindi, that it was something that she could love as much as I did, I was able to get the blood flowing again. We started out small, with a couple of PWCs, then moved up to a 23′ bowrider that we trailered all over the state. Once our children were born, we moved up to a 26′ cruiser to have a sheltered area. As they grew and we took more overnight trips, we moved up once again to a 30′ twin-engine cruiser. We thought our boat was great and couldn’t imagine making another jump anytime soon—that was before Curly, our salesman that sold us that boat, moved over to the local Formula dealership (Sun Sport Marine). After getting us to come take a look at the outstanding Formula quality and features and the Escape plan’s affordability, we were hooked. So, after only two years of being sure we were set for a while, we moved up to a Formula 34-foot PC. Even with our first season with the Formula coming to a close, our whole family is still excited over that purchase. Our boat is not only a floating condo, but it takes us to destinations all over the eastern Great Lakes and our home port of Lake St. Clair, from daytime swimming trips to Gull Island and Strawberry Island, multiple day trips at great Canadian ports like the quiet Mitchell’s Bay and Tilbury to the entertaining Sarnia Bay, Bayfield and Grand Bend marinas. We have also made trips into Lake Huron to great destinations along the ‘thumb’ of Michigan, like the wonderful cities of Lexington and Port Huron. We are really looking forward to taking our fabulous Formula cruiser to new destinations as well, like Put-in-Bay and the exciting Cedar Point amusement park down in Lake Erie. Our summers are all about destinations on the water and having all the amenities of the great 34 PC to take along with us is a dream come true. Now we just have to make it through another Michigan winter while we dream about next year’s boating trips!
